A Terrible Accident
According to the final necropsy results (PDF) released today by the KHRA, there was no "catastrophic event," no heart attack or pulmonary aneurysm that felled Eight Belles as she galloped out after finishing second in the Derby, causing her leg injuries. The report concluded that the filly suffered compound fractures in both front legs at the fetlock joints, for which she was euthanized on track, and noted that "no pre-existing bone pathology was observed." In other words: She was sound and what happened was a terrible accident.
5/16 Update: KHRA reports that Eight Belles tested negative for steroids and other substances.

It hardly seems worth replying to you, since you're obviously a foolish person intent on conspiracy and nothing I will say will convince you otherwise, but --
The edema in her lungs is a common post-euthanasia finding, as the report stated.
Eight Belles pitched forward and fell hard and suddenly. The bruising to her head and neck are consistent with how she fell and the force with which she fell.
To suggest that there is a cover-up or that this horse was endangered before or during the race is irresponsible, cynical, and slanderous.
I'll say it again: Eight Belles was sound going into the Derby. What happened was an accident. Racing must do more -- and is working to do more -- to improve the safety of all horses on the track, but accidents can never be completely eliminated.

Really!! Sound was she? They also reported congeston in her lungs. How did that get there and what effect on her. They also reported bruised head. How did that happen and could it have been a factor? It was proposed that she hit her head on the track. Who saw that? Maybe she hit it on something else like rearing up in her stall or coming out of it, or other places. There was one reporter that stated in an article that jockey of Colonel John told Baffert that he heard Eight Belles whinny when he passed her on the turn as if she was in distress. Did not specify which turn and I don't know. Was at one of the turns during race or at end when pulling up? It still sounds like everyone in the racing world is trying to cover up and minimize what happened here as people are getting disgusted with horses giving their lives for a human "sport."
